About Western Railway
Western Railway was established on 5 Nov 1951 with the merger of their forerunners. This comprise of erstwhile Bombay, Central Indian Railway and Baroda along with State railways of Rajputna, Jaipur and Saurashtra. They serve entire Gujarat, certain parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. They are consisting of six major divisions of Ahmadabad, Ratlam, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Vadodara and Mumbai. Two divisions Jaipur and Ajmer were merged into North West Railway on 1 Oct 2002. BCCI was come into existence in the year 1855, introduced mile board gauge to track position accordingly. This was from past were connected to Government of India from 1 Jan 1942. After Western railways came into existence, certain jurisdiction got modified based on board gauge, meter gauge and narrow gauge.
A new division of Ahmadabad was created on 1 April 2003. The Western Coastal was served by Western railways through various ports and some important amongst them are- Bedi, Rozi, Okha, Bhavnagar, Kandla, Mundra and Navlaki. They are the first to introduce Ladies Special train in route of Church Gate to Virar. They are pioneer to implement State of Art and provided Trainee management system in areas of suburban sector of Virar. Computerised mechanism has helped individuals to cater the delay associated with trains on various routes.
